The Overstrand Municipality would like to give residents and visitors a friendly but serious reminder: setting off fireworks anywhere – including private property – is not allowed.
Please be sensible and think twice before lighting anything, as fireworks are unpredictable. One careless spark can cause a fire and serious damage.
Remember, the use of Chinese (sky) lanterns, firecrackers, and flares for any purpose other than an emergency is prohibited by law.
Fireworks are Banned
Selling fireworks in the Overstrand is illegal, and all fireworks are banned across the region. Don’t risk it, using or buying fireworks is dangerous and unlawful.
The Municipality continues to work closely with SAPS to ensure community safety. If you see fireworks being used or sold illegally, report it immediately to your nearest police station:
Hermanus Police: 028 313 5300
Gansbaai Police: 028 384 0201
Stanford Police: 028 341 0601
Kleinmond Police: 028 271 8200
Alternatively, report it to Overstrand Municipal Law Enforcement number on 028 313 8996, or via the Collab Citizen App.
